The Willow Trust

Each year thousands of disabled and seriously ill children and adults spend a day on board with The Willow Trust! To help us continue providing these days of freedom completely free of charge – would you consider making a donation? Every penny or pound you donate goes directly towards providing wonderful days for our guests. Thank you so much.

Spirit of Freedom II

April 2018 sees The Willow Trust enter its 28th season of providing relaxing and inspiring days on the waters of the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal for disabled and seriously ill children and adults with their carers. Thanks to our skippers, volunteers and supporters, we are able to welcome our guests on board every weekday of the season.

Would you like to Volunteer?

We couldn’t manage without our 90+ crew of volunteers who host the day for our guests and ensure they have a day to remember. If you would like to find out more about volunteering for The Willow Trust just send an email to with your phone number and address and we’ll be in touch. If you like what you hear, you will be invited on board to meet the Willow Trust team and to find out more about what it means to be a Willow Trust Crew member.

Fancy Fundraising for The Willow Trust?

Fundraising work continues all year round to ensure our trips remain – as they have since 1990 – free of charge. If you would like to hold a fundraising event for The Willow Trust – maybe a coffee morning or an ever popular bake off – please let us know if we can support you in any way.

Throughout the season you can see our two fully wheelchair accessible boats taking groups out for therapeutic days on the water every weekday as they travel from our moorings at Saul Junction near Frampton-on-Severn in Gloucestershire down past Slimbridge towards Sharpness and travelling back home again to our moorings around 3pm.

Established in 1989 the Willow Trust charity operates both its fully equipped purpose-built boats from April to October in pursuit of providing pleasure and happiness in otherwise difficult lives. We are and remain self funding to ensure that the original precepts of the trust are adhered to and improved upon every year.
